Marks Gate Relief Project is an award winning not-for-profit Community Interest Company that engages innovative voluntary services to boost community engagement, inter-faith harmony, socio-economic welfare, cultural & linguistic diversity, physical mental and spiritual well being, and provide equitable opportunities for education and attainment within Marks Gate and surrounding areas. Services offered include Monday soup kitchen, weekly community supermarket, food/clothing/hygiene bank, food drives, cooking clubs, gardening workshops, community cricket as a sport and support network, community catchup over a hot meal, free GCSE Chemistry/Maths and A-level Chemistry/Maths lessons with exam walk-through, inter-faith harmony workshops, job support, advocacy & counselling, benefits advice, apply for PIP, money & debt advice, parenting support. We also offer specialist support for women who are victims of DV, FGM, honour crimes, gender based discrimination and female sexual exploitation.

John Smith House is a community hub, improving the lives of young people and their families in Barking & Dagenham with many challenges, high deprivation, where the young people face great temptations and experience inequalities. Young people gain from increased knowledge and awareness of many subjects enabling them to feel valued, listened to and improve their lives. We strive to reduce poverty, improve health and education. We provide positive activities such as arts, media and safe spaces as well as physical activities, training and workshops, mentoring and access to counselling services. There are 13 different grassroots agencies based within John Smith House.

Community Resources is a charity based in Barking and Dagenham. We are ‘For the Community, by the Community’. Our activities are asset-based and volunteer-led. We run projects/activities which equip families and individuals facing disadvantage (e.g.low-income, unemployment, arrival in a new country, mental health, domestic abuse and,as a result, social isolation) to find belonging in the local community. The Neighbourhood Project runs at our Community Hub, Castle Point and includes: · Support groups: Men’s Shed, Women’s Skills Group, Mums Group, Toddlers and parents group. · Community Café: affordable, hot lunches and a friendly atmosphere. · Peaced Together: Creative craft for women who have experienced trauma. · Creative English classes: supporting adults to learn English through practical conversation and fun role-play. · Parent/Carer and Child groups: interactive activities encouraging parents to learn, read and play with their child, and for new/expectant parents to chat about postnatal/antenatal issues. Our staff team also offer ad-hoc support making referral to organisation and services, e.g.help with accessing benefits, food bank vouchers, housing support.

Harmony House is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation and works in partnership with the Local Authority, Community and Voluntary organisations in delivering a range of community based services and projects. For several years we have been at the forefront of support to the community through various projects targeting all age groups. Harmony House Services:- We have three Nurseries located in Dagenham, Castle Green & Hornchurch. Silvernet. This aims to be network of Get Together Groups providing opportunities for isolated and lonely residents of Barking and Dagenham to make new friends and increase social contact and improve their safety and ability to remain independent. Companions. A befriender will visit you once every fortnight to enjoy a chat and provide a listening ear or perhaps support you to get out and about in your local community. Handyperson Scheme. This service can arrange for a visit to your home to carry out small jobs you find difficult to do, that will reduce hazards and so prevent falls. Jobs that are not the responsibility of someone else to get done and that you cannot get anyone else to help you with. Anyone* who lives in their own home or rented property can access the scheme if he/she: is 65 and over or; has a disability or is vulnerable or; is being or has recently been discharged from hospital or; is at high risk of falling due to a medical condition *Proof of eligibility may be needed and priority will be given to clients who live on their own, or where all household members meet the criteria.

Al Madina mosque is a community hub operated and run by the Barking Muslims Association (a UK registered charity), which serves a weekly footfall of over 10,000 individuals. Its services reach approximately 35,000 residents in Barking and Dagenham and thousands of beneficiaries across the country. As well as being a Place of Worship the organisation runs a raft of services in accordance with its philosophy of providing holistic human-centred ‘cradle to grave’ services and for many who use its services, the benefits can quite literally be life changing. Al Madina has been instrumental over the past decades in helping beneficiaries with money and debt management, housing problems, employment and skills development, children and family issues, adult social care issues, domestic violence, crime and anti-social behaviour and health issues and emergency and humanitarian response. Much of this work is completed through multiagency partnerships with the local authority and third sector. The organisation also runs an award-winning sports programme that has helped young people engage in positive activities and prevented harm. This includes deterring the youth from gang affiliations which led to receiving an award in 2017, the BEDSA Award for ‘Connecting Communities’, among a list of other notable awards for its community work over the past 30+ years. In addition to housing the Northbury community hub, the organisation is one of only 6 locality leads serving residents in the borough, operates an award-winning women’s group called the Hive and provides specialist interventions for families who have children with special educational through its Sensory Hive Special Needs provision service. Last year, Al Madina received the Queens Award for voluntary service which recognises outstanding work by local volunteer groups to benefit their communities
